Dear Friends, I am deeply honored to welcome you to the Joshua Cheptegei Development Foundation (JOCDEF). My journey in athletics
Promoting and protecting human rights is central to our mission of building stronger, safer, and more equitable communities. We believe that every individual, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, or background, deserves to live with dignity, respect, and freedom.
Tackling Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
GBV is a deeply rooted issue in many societies, perpetuated by inequality and harmful cultural norms. Our approach focuses on prevention, education, and survivor support.
- Awareness and Education – Through community workshops, media campaigns, and school outreach, we raise awareness about GBV, its impact, and prevention methods.
- Empowering Survivors – We offer survivors counseling, legal aid, and skills training to help them rebuild their lives and become financially independent.
- Engaging Men and Boys – We involve men and boys as allies in the fight against GBV, encouraging them to support gender equality and speak out against violence.
- Advocating for Policy Change – We work with local leaders and policymakers to advocate for stronger enforcement of laws against GBV and the establishment of community support structures.
Annual Awareness Runs Against GBV
One of our flagship programs, the annual awareness runs, serves as a platform to unite communities in the fight against GBV.
- Creating Visibility – The runs highlight the prevalence of GBV and spark conversations about how it can be eradicated.
- Mobilizing Communities – The events bring together youth, families, public figures, and local leaders to demonstrate solidarity and strength against GBV.
- Fundraising for Survivors – Proceeds from the runs go toward supporting survivors with services like shelters, counseling, and vocational training.
- Advocating for Change – Through speeches and dialogues during the runs, we amplify the voices of survivors and advocates and call for stronger GBV policies.
Expanding Our Human Rights Advocacy
- Children’s Rights – We promote the protection of children from abuse and exploitation, ensuring access to education, healthcare, and safe environments.
- Promoting Gender Equality – We empower women and girls to pursue education and leadership opportunities, while encouraging men and boys to be champions of gender equality.
- Freedom from Discrimination – We work against all forms of discrimination, fostering inclusion and respect in communities.
- Building Safe Spaces – We create safe spaces for those who have been victims of violence, discrimination, or abuse to find support and healing.
Why Human Rights Advocacy Matters
- Empowering Communities – Upholding human rights helps individuals reach their full potential, contributing to the overall strength of communities.
- Ending Cycles of Violence – Addressing the root causes of violence and providing support creates safer environments for future generations.
- Inspiring Hope and Change – Our initiatives inspire individuals to take action, fostering a movement of justice, equality, and dignity for all.
