The Elgon Half Marathon 2025, the 3rd edition of this prestigious event, will once again bring together athletes, organizations, and communities to promote sustainable development, sports tourism, and gender equality. Set to take place in Mbale, Uganda, in November 2025, this event will continue to highlight the role of sports in addressing pressing social issues, including gender-based violence (GBV) and climate action.
Key Partners: UNDP & JOCDEF
The 2025 edition of the marathon will be organized in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Joshua Cheptegei Development Foundation (JOCDEF), two vital partners working towards community empowerment and regional development. These organizations will lead efforts to promote inclusive growth, youth empowerment, and sports as a tool for positive change.
Event Highlights
- Race Categories: As always, the marathon will feature various categories for different age groups and skill levels, including the 5 km, 10 km, and half marathon (21 km) races.
- Gender-Based Violence Awareness: The marathon will continue to use the platform to raise awareness about the importance of ending gender-based violence and empowering women and girls.
- Environmental Conservation: With a focus on climate action, the event will also spotlight efforts to protect the environment, encouraging participants and partners to adopt sustainable practices.
- Talent Development: The marathon will nurture athletic talent in Uganda and the wider East African region, with local and international athletes taking part.
