Joshua Cheptegei Development Foundation was formed with a purpose to transform communities into a strong, united and influential partners in development. Our main agenda is to use sports for community transformation taking note that Sebei Sub-region in Uganda is one of the communities that still grapples with challenges of gender-based violence, early marriages, teenage pregnancies, poverty, high levels of school dropouts, female genital mutilation, HIV/AIDS and now the effects of Corona Virus (COVID19).
We want to promote gender equality and equity, fight for women and girl child rights through engaging men/boys, eradicate poverty through income boost gender and capacity building, promote social justice and tranquillity and encourage girls to stay at school as well as fighting early child marriages, nurture talent in sports, establish schools, establish a sports academy, contribute to the establishment of health care facilities taking note that for every 1000 women giving birth daily, 170 die due to pregnancy-related deaths.
The structure of the organization is threefold; the General Assembly which is constituted by all registered and fully subscribed members and it is the overall organization supreme policy and decision making organ; the Executive Board consisting of five members elected from the General Assembly and responsible for policy formulation and supervision of the secretariat; and finally the secretariat consisting of the technical staff who are responsible for the implementation of the policies and day to day operations of the organization.
Joshua Cheptegei Development Foundation has played a crucial role in pushing for the realization of the basic human rights for women, men, boys and girls since 2016 as a community-based organization through organizing Joshua Cheptegei Development Foundation Annual races and we use these platforms to engage parents to keep children in school, distribute scholastic materials, engage men and women not to fight or subject each other to sexual gender based violence.
Our annual run efforts have yielded to the rights of women and girls being respected/not subjected to FGM/C or early marriages, encouraging women participation in decision making, campaign to eradicate bad social norms such as female genital mutilation/cutting, women rights, children’s rights and economic empowerment of women, mobilizing women to deliver safely in health facilities. However, our biggest challenge is the limited resource envelope that is dependent on the good will support of the foundation directors especially Champion Joshua Cheptegei, calling for your support in intensifying fundraising efforts to meet the needs of communities.
